Before anything else, check your status. Virginia’s registration rolls are updated constantly, so even longtime voters can fall off after a move or a missed election cycle.

Register for the first time

Virginia lets you register online, by mail, or in person. Online is the fastest — you’ll need your Virginia driver’s license or DMV ID number.

Deadlines matter. Registration closes 15 days before Election Day for online and mail registrations. In-person registration at your local general registrar’s office closes at the end of business on the deadline date.
